WILMINGTON, Del. – Delawareans are enjoying a pleasant, calm stretch of November weather, but the pattern will shift again this weekend as rain and cooler air make a return. For now, bright skies and mild afternoons will hold through Friday before a coastal system moves in Saturday night, bringing a dose of late-fall rain to the region.
Sunshine Dominates Through Friday
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Thursday brings a crisp and comfortable day with highs near 54°F and light west winds up to 15 mph. Friday will be even milder, reaching the mid-50s under mostly sunny skies — ideal for yard work, outdoor errands, or early holiday preparations before the next weather system arrives.
Meteorologists expect the clear skies to persist into Friday evening, with temperatures dipping into the 30s overnight. The calm pattern, however, will begin to break down as a new front approaches from the southwest.
Weekend System Brings Rain and Falling Temperatures
By Saturday night, a developing coastal low-pressure system is forecast to brush Delaware and southern New Jersey. Rain chances will climb to around 30 percent, especially after dark. Drivers along I-95 and Route 13 should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility into early Sunday morning.
“The front will likely linger through Sunday morning before clearing out by afternoon,” forecasters noted, adding that “gusts could reach 20 mph as cooler air filters in behind the system.”
Sunday’s highs may briefly reach around 64°F, but temperatures will begin to drop steadily by evening as northwest winds push in drier, colder air. The quick change marks the start of a more typical mid-November pattern.
Travel and Outdoor Plans for the Weekend
Residents planning weekend trips or events may want to schedule outdoor activities earlier in the weekend, as conditions will deteriorate late Saturday into Sunday. Morning commuters on Sunday could encounter puddling or slower traffic on major routes toward Baltimore or Philadelphia, though rain should taper by early afternoon.
By Sunday night, skies will clear and cooler air will settle in — setting up a crisp, sunny start to the following week.
Early Next Week: Calm and Seasonable
After the weekend’s brief storm, Monday will bring a return to calmer weather. Sunshine and highs in the low- to mid-50s will dominate early next week, offering classic mid-November conditions ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel season.
The long-range forecast suggests that temperatures will remain near seasonal averages, with no significant cold outbreaks on the immediate horizon.
Solar Storm Update
Meanwhile, the rare G4-level solar storm that lit up skies with Northern Lights across the U.S. earlier this week is beginning to fade. While most visible effects have passed, meteorologists caution that minor GPS and communication disruptions could linger through Thursday.
Even with the storm fading, Delaware residents can look forward to one last golden stretch of fall sunshine before late-season rains usher in the next cool phase.
