WYOMING COUNTY, WV – A routine traffic stop in Wyoming County escalated into a manhunt, resulting in the seizure of narcotics and over $7,000 in cash, according to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
Traffic Stop and Suspicious Activity
On October 4, Corporal Matthew Perry conducted a traffic stop on a white SUV after noticing the vehicle was traveling unusually slowly. According to Perry, the driver, Daniel Powell, initially employed evasion tactics before eventually stopping the car.
During a search, officers discovered a hypodermic needle and Suboxone strips that were not prescribed to Powell.
Discovery of Cash and Second Suspect
Next to the vehicle, officers noticed a trampled area near the passenger side, which contained a large black bag and $7,111 in cash. Powell admitted that his passenger had jumped from the car as the vehicle came to a stop.
A sergeant and a K-9 unit were deployed to search the surrounding area, leading to the arrest of Landon Kingsley.
Drugs and Evidence Recovered
In total, law enforcement seized:
- 11 grams of Methamphetamine
- 6 grams of Fentanyl
- 3 Suboxone strips
- $7,111 in cash
The confiscation marks a significant drug bust in the county, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse and illegal narcotics distribution.

- Fleeing with a Vehicle

- Drug Conspiracy
- Kingsley also had outstanding warrants from Mercer and McDowell County.
