Liberty County, TX – A Texas mother is under investigation for allegedly attempting to drown her three children in a pond near their family home, possibly after drugging them with NyQuil, according to authorities.
Father Calls 911, Claiming Children Were Poisoned and Drowned
In the early hours of Monday morning, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call from a father who reported that his wife had poisoned their children with NyQuil and attempted to drown them in a nearby lake. The incident took place just before 6 a.m. when the father urgently informed dispatchers of the unfolding situation.
According to Captain David Meyers, the public information officer for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the three children involved in the alleged drowning attempt are a 15-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy.
Children and Mother Taken to Hospital; Survivors in Critical Condition
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and found that all three children had been rescued from the water, but their mother was still unconscious and unresponsive. The children were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, and although the 11-year-old girl and the mother were listed in critical condition, the other two children are reported to be in stable condition.
The father, who managed to pull the children from the lake, was heard on the 911 call describing the scene: “I heard some commotion… it sounded like my kids yelling,” he said. He also mentioned that he had successfully gotten all the children to safety and was “trying to get away from the wife.”
Alleged Poisoning with NyQuil Being Investigated
Authorities are investigating claims made during the 911 call that the children may have been poisoned with NyQuil, though Capt. Meyers did not confirm whether the children ingested the medication or any other substance like vodka. The father’s statement to dispatchers about the children being “poisoned” is part of an ongoing investigation.
The family’s living situation is also being examined. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the family had resided in the home since 2017, and none of the children were currently enrolled in school. Additionally, authorities are working closely with Child Protective Services (CPS) and a social worker at the hospital.
Mother and Father Both Under Investigation; Police Await Further Information
At present, police have not named the mother or father, and both parents are under investigation. While the father has been cooperative with authorities, the sheriff’s office is continuing to gather information to determine the full extent of the events.
When asked about the possibility of charging the mother with attempted murder, Capt. Meyers emphasized that it was “too early to tell.” Investigators are waiting for more details before drawing conclusions about the nature of the alleged crime.
Authorities Continue to Seek Answers
As the investigation continues, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has yet to confirm whether any charges will be filed against the parents. Authorities are also working to notify the extended family members of the children before releasing further information about the case.
This tragic event has left the community shaken, and the sheriff’s office is urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
