Baltimore, MD – A Maryland man, Karl Geiger, 65, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly gunning down his ex-wife, Patricia Watson-Geiger, 69, and being caught on camera hauling a blood-stained mattress from their home. Geiger’s actions raised suspicions after he spoke to a local news outlet, claiming to have found his ex-wife dead, only to later be filmed disposing of the mattress that was stained with blood.
The Morning of the Incident
On Sept. 15, 2025, Geiger told that he had left the house around 7:00 a.m. and returned at 8:30 p.m., claiming he discovered Watson-Geiger dead in her bedroom after entering the residence. Despite their divorce in 2019, the couple had continued to live together as housemates. Upon finding her, Geiger said he immediately called 911.
“It looks like somebody broke into my house and my wife’s not moving,” Geiger allegedly told the dispatcher, as per the probable cause statement.
Video Evidence Contradicts His Story
While speaking, Geiger was filmed disposing of a blood-stained mattress, directly contradicting his initial statement. Authorities later learned that Geiger’s description of a ransacked house didn’t align with the evidence. Although no valuables were stolen, police found Watson-Geiger’s jewelry box open and the contents of her purse scattered on the kitchen counter, yet there was no indication of theft.
Suspicious Details and Evidence
Police arrived to find Watson-Geiger lying in her bed, covered with blankets and sheets, with a sleeping mask covering her eyes. Numerous dresser drawers were open, suggesting possible staging of a burglary, but the home showed no signs of robbery.
Surveillance footage from a nearby home revealed gunshots around 7:58 a.m., and Geiger’s tow truck was seen leaving the residence shortly after 8:00 a.m., around 45 minutes after he claimed to have left. Cell phone records also disputed Geiger’s timeline, indicating he was still at the house until 8:15 a.m..
Witness Accounts
Multiple witnesses provided information about the incident. One neighbor reported hearing 1-2 gunshots between 8:00-8:30 a.m. that morning. Another individual, upon learning about the murder on Sept. 16, called Geiger, who allegedly revealed that Watson-Geiger had been shot in the head, a detail that had not been shared with the public.
Geiger’s Questionable Actions
Despite being confronted with mounting evidence, Geiger maintained he had no idea his ex-wife had been shot until detectives informed him during questioning. Further, during a follow-up interview on Sept. 22, he allegedly told investigators he still didn’t know where Watson-Geiger had been shot, contradicting the autopsy results.
“At no point during this investigation did anyone tell the defendant where the victim was shot,” the probable cause statement reads.
Charges and Arrest
Geiger was arrested on Sept. 23, 2025, and charged with first-degree murder. He was being held without bond as of Sept. 24. Police believe the scene had been staged to appear as a burglary gone wrong, with no actual items reported missing.
