Chattanooga, TN – Two individuals, including a Nashville man and a Chattanooga woman, are facing multiple charges after Chattanooga police discovered a stolen firearm, marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs in a vehicle Saturday night.
Incident Details
Authorities responded to the 1200 block of Poplar Street Court, where 27-year-old Tyquan Vaughn was seen standing near the driver’s side of a Ford Fusion. Vaughn, a convicted felon, initially ignored officers and walked into an apartment. Police then observed a firearm in the vehicle’s driver seat, later confirmed to be stolen. Vaughn was arrested upon exiting the apartment.
Arrest of Second Suspect
During Vaughn’s arrest, 18-year-old Tarah Hayes entered the driver’s seat. Officers noticed her attempting to conceal a baggie, prompting her immediate detention. A vehicle search revealed:
- A red backpack containing a large bag of marijuana and a scale
- Cocaine and pills in the center console and passenger seat
“Both individuals were taken into custody without incident. Officers continue to investigate the source of the stolen firearm and controlled substances,” police said.
Charges Filed
Vaughn faces multiple charges, including:
- Theft of property
- Aggravated criminal trespass
- Possessing a firearm with intent to go armed
- Possession of Schedule II controlled substances
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
Hayes faces a charge of tampering with or fabricating evidence. Both were booked into the Hamilton County Jail.
