Princeton, IN – A southern Indiana man was arrested Wednesday after police say he was caught speeding on US 41 and found to be in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine. Authorities say the case involved collaboration between local, state, and federal agencies.
Investigation and Police Monitoring
According to the Princeton Police Department, officers, along with Indiana State Police (ISP) and the DEA, began monitoring 42-year-old Levertes Goodwin, of Princeton, on Sept. 17 as he traveled from Chicago to Gibson County.
Police suspected Goodwin had acquired a “large amount” of meth from an unknown source. ISP troopers followed him on US 41, ultimately stopping him near Hazelton, Indiana, after he was speeding.
Drug Discovery During Traffic Stop
An ISP K-9 alerted officers to the possible presence of drugs after troopers detected the smell of raw marijuana in Goodwin’s vehicle.
During a search, police say they found:
- A glass jar containing marijuana
- Two five-pound bags of suspected crystal meth, totaling approximately 10 pounds
Goodwin was immediately taken into custody without incident.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Goodwin was booked at the Gibson County Jail, where he remains held without bond.
On Sept. 18, the Gibson County Prosecutor formally charged Goodwin with:
- Two felony counts of dealing methamphetamine
- Possession of methamphetamine
Additionally, Goodwin received a citation for speeding on a non-Interstate four-lane highway.
Authorities emphasize the seriousness of the charges, noting the large quantity of drugs involved.
Law Enforcement Collaboration
The case highlights cooperation between local, state, and federal agencies, including the Princeton Police Department, ISP, and DEA. Police noted that ongoing monitoring and investigation were crucial in preventing the distribution of a significant amount of methamphetamine in southern Indiana communities.
