Oklahoma City, OK – Residents of the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch Sunday evening, with strong winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning expected through 11 p.m. CDT. Authorities warn of hazardous conditions for travel and outdoor activities.

Counties and Areas Under Watch

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers 24 counties, including Beckham, Custer, Kiowa, and Washita in Oklahoma, and Gray, Hutchinson, and Wheeler in Texas. Storms may produce wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

The strongest storms are expected to develop across Elk City, Sayre, and Pampa, where power outages and downed trees are possible.

Highways including U.S. 283 and I-40 may become hazardous due to rapid storm development. Residents are urged to:
