West Bloomfield Township, MI – A Michigan man was arrested after allegedly attacking the staff at a Planet Fitness in West Bloomfield Township and later leading police on a high-speed chase through the area. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at the gym located on Orchard Lake Road.
Attack on Planet Fitness Staff
According to West Bloomfield Police, officers responded to a 9:30 a.m. call about a man who had been punching gym staff and charging at them with a metal object. When officers arrived at the Planet Fitness parking lot, they found the suspect in his vehicle.
Police Chase and Arrest
Upon encountering officers, the suspect allegedly attempted to run over an officer and struck multiple police vehicles. The suspect then led police on a high-speed chase, fleeing through the roadway and into a nearby subdivision. After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody.
West Bloomfield Police reported that both the suspect and an officer were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital following the altercation.
Planet Fitness Responds
Planet Fitness released a statement expressing concern for the safety of its employees, members, and guests:
“At Planet Fitness, the safety of our employees, members, and guests is a top priority, and we do not tolerate violence of any kind. The local franchise group is working closely with police in their investigation. As this is an ongoing investigation, we refer any additional inquiries to the appropriate authorities.”
