Addison Ice Cream Shop Owner Arrested for Secretly Recording Minors in Bathroom

Addison, IL – A DuPage County judge has denied pre-trial release for Steven Weisberg, 58, of Buffalo Grove, after he was accused of recording multiple minors and employees in a hidden bathroom camera at his ice cream shop, Flavor Frenzy, authorities said. Weisberg faces child pornography and unauthorized video recording charges.

Hidden Camera Discovered at Flavor Frenzy

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Addison police received an anonymous tip in early August about a suspicious electrical outlet at Flavor Frenzy, located at 48 W. Lake St.. An undercover officer inspected the outlet and discovered a small black lens aimed to record part of the restroom.

After obtaining a search warrant, authorities removed the fake outlet and confirmed it contained a camera, which Weisberg allegedly installed several years earlier to capture footage of patrons and employees.

Evidence Found on Electronic Devices

Police executed a search warrant on Weisberg’s devices and recovered 11 deleted videos featuring six individuals, including three Flavor Frenzy employees. Investigators noted that one of the videos depicted a 16-year-old employee exposing herself while trying on T-shirts for the shop.

Authorities stated that Weisberg allegedly instructed female employees to remove bras while modeling T-shirts to prevent outlines from showing, placing minors at risk.

Detectives also identified two additional videos of female employees, including at least one minor, at various stages of undress, exposing private areas. Following Weisberg’s arrest, four more minors came forward reporting similar incidents.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Weisberg faces:

  • Two counts of child pornography (Class X felony)
  • Two counts of unauthorized video recording (Class 3 felony)

He made his first court appearance Sunday morning, and pre-trial release was denied due to the severity of the alleged crimes.

Addison Chief of Police Roy Selvik said, “Mr. Weisberg allegedly falsely created an environment where children should have felt safe and secure. Instead, he betrayed not only their trust, but the trust of our entire community in one of the most heinous and disturbing ways.”

Police Seek Additional Information

Authorities continue to investigate the matter and are asking anyone with information about Weisberg’s activities to contact the Addison Police Department at 630-543-3080.
