Maryland – Summer heat will make a strong return this weekend, with high temperatures nearing 90°F and humid conditions expected to make it feel even hotter. Although Maryland will see a brief period of dry weather, scattered showers and storms are forecast for early next week.
Partly Cloudy to Mostly Cloudy Conditions
Skies will start partly cloudy on Saturday morning, with conditions becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Overnight lows will settle in the upper 60s to low 70s, giving way to a warmer, more humid weekend ahead.
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday is expected to start off cloudy, but skies will clear through the morning and early afternoon. Temperatures will rise, with highs approaching 90°F both days.
Hot Weekend with Heat Index Values in the 90s
As the weekend progresses, high pressure will settle over Maryland, resulting in generally dry conditions with only a slim chance of isolated mountain showers. However, heat index values could reach the mid-90s, making it feel much hotter than the actual temperature. Sunday will be the hotter of the two days, offering perfect conditions for outdoor activities — though with a bit more stickiness in the air.
Tropical Storm Erin and Impact on Maryland Beaches
A major concern for the Maryland beaches is Tropical Storm Erin, currently developing off the Atlantic coast. While Erin is expected to bypass the area offshore, its impacts will be felt along the Maryland and Delaware beaches.
Expect heavy surf, beach erosion, and dangerous rip currents early next week, with the greatest impacts likely Wednesday into Thursday, as Erin makes its closest pass.
Changing Weather for Monday and Beyond
By Monday, a cold front will move through Maryland, bringing scattered showers and storms, and cooling things off a bit. Following the front, high pressure will return midweek, bringing in cooler, more stable conditions for Maryland. However, a few showers cannot be ruled out, particularly in western parts of the state.
A Great Weekend for Outdoor Activities
Despite the increase in humidity, the weekend will still offer great weather for outdoor activities. If you don’t mind a little extra stickiness, it’s the perfect time to enjoy summer events or visit the beaches before the storm impacts arrive.
