Heat Advisory Issued for Florida and Georgia as Extreme Humidity Pushes Temps to Dangerous Levels

Jacksonville, FL – A Heat Advisory has been issued for much of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia as dangerously high temperatures and extreme humidity will make it feel like triple-digit temperatures through Thursday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of heat index values soaring between 108 and 112 degrees, which could lead to heat-related illnesses for those spending time outdoors without taking proper precautions.

Heat Advisory in Effect from Late Morning to Evening

According to the NWS Jacksonville, the advisory will remain in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, covering multiple counties from Live Oak to Palm Coast in Florida, and from Brunswick to Waycross in Georgia. The combination of high humidity and already scorching temperatures will push “feels-like” temperatures well into the danger zone, making outdoor activity especially risky for anyone exposed for extended periods.

Precautions Urged for Outdoor Activities

Residents are urged to take extra precautions when outdoors, especially during the peak afternoon hours. The NWS recommends limiting strenuous physical activity and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces to prevent heat-related illnesses. For those working outside, it is vital to follow OSHA guidelines, including frequent rest breaks and staying hydrated to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If symptoms of heat stroke occur, call 911 immediately, as quick action is critical,” said the NWS in Jacksonville.

The Weekend Could Bring More Extreme Heat

Although the dangerous heat is expected to subside by Thursday night, similar conditions could return over the weekend if humidity levels remain high. The NWS continues to monitor the situation and will issue updated alerts as needed.
