Boston Braces for Third Heat Wave of Summer as Temperatures Soar Into Mid-90s

Boston, MA – The summer heat continues to grip Massachusetts, with temperatures forecasted to reach between 90 and 95 degrees through midweek, marking Boston’s third heat wave of the season and the fourth for many towns to the north and west.

Heat Wave Conditions Set to Continue

According to forecasters, most towns across central and eastern Massachusetts hit 90 to 92 degrees on Monday, kicking off the latest heat wave. This brings Boston’s total to 17 days of 90+ degree weather this year — already three more than the seasonal average and the most in the past three years.
Meteorologists expect similar conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a slight chance of touching 90 degrees again on Thursday, depending on the timing of a cold front.

Where to Find Relief

For those seeking cooler conditions, heading toward the South Coast, Cape Cod, and the Islands may offer respite. A southwest ocean breeze will keep temperatures in those areas in the upper 70s to low 80s.
While the current round of heat will not feel as oppressive early in the week due to lower dewpoints, forecasters warn that humidity will rise sharply by Wednesday night.

Rain Chances and Dry Streak

Boston has now gone 10 consecutive days without measurable rainfall, heightening the need for precipitation. Thursday is expected to bring the best chance for showers this week, which could help ease the ongoing dryness.
The National Weather Service notes that dewpoints could reach the oppressive range by Thursday, potentially making conditions feel much hotter.

City Declares Heat Emergency

In response to the dangerous temperatures, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu declared a heat emergency from Monday through Wednesday. City officials are urging residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and recognize signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
More information about heat safety guidelines is available through the City of Boston’s official website.

A Celestial Event Amid the Heat

Even with the heat, residents may look forward to a meteor shower later this week, offering a rare night sky spectacle. The best viewing opportunities will be away from city lights and in clear conditions.
