Milford, ME – A Pennsylvania woman is facing serious charges after her 3-year-old daughter was discovered dead inside a vehicle parked outside a Maine business on Saturday evening. Authorities say the case has sparked deep concern among law enforcement and the local community.
Child Discovered in Parked Vehicle
Police reported that the child was found unresponsive inside a car in a business parking lot in Milford, Maine, on the evening of August 9. Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to revive the young girl. Officials have not released her name due to privacy concerns.
According to Maine State Police, officers had earlier been asked to locate 40-year-old Kelly Brown, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, and her daughter after concerned family members requested a welfare check.
Mother Taken Into Custody
Authorities say Brown was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with manslaughter. She is currently being held at Penobscot County Jail pending her initial appearance at the Penobscot Judicial Center.
Investigators have not disclosed how long the child may have been inside the vehicle or the exact circumstances leading to her death.
Autopsy Scheduled
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. While results are pending, police have emphasized that the investigation remains active and further charges are possible depending on the findings.
Community Shock and Ongoing Investigation
Residents in both Maine and Pennsylvania have expressed shock and sadness over the incident. Milford locals say the case has prompted renewed discussions about child safety and well-being during extreme weather conditions and the dangers of leaving children in vehicles.
Officials have urged the public to immediately call emergency services if they suspect a child is left unattended in a potentially dangerous situation.
