Nev. RENO.According to investigators, a 66-year-old local guy was the third fatality of a shooting outside Nevada’s biggest casino. The other two victims were 33-year-old men in town celebrating a bachelor party.
The suspect, who was shot by police and remains in serious condition, was named on Tuesday as 26-year-old Reno native Dakota Hawver. Police in the nearby town of Sparks, who are in charge of the investigation, say they have not discovered any links between Hawver and the Grand Sierra Resort or any of the victims. “The motive is still unknown,” they claimed.

In a statement released on Tuesday, police stated that two additional victims of Monday’s shooting were still in the hospital but were anticipated to fully recover.
According to investigators, 33-year-old Southern Californians Andrew Canepa and Justin Aguila were shot and killed from behind as they waited for a transport to the airport in the casino’s valet area. They had been attending a bachelor party with a bunch of buddies.
The suspect, who had been hiding behind a parked car, shot and murdered 66-year-old Reno resident Angel Martinez as he was driving his car across the parking lot, according to police.
Investigators found that Hawver shot about 80 rounds from a 9mm handgun he had lawfully purchased two years prior, using several magazines. According to officials on Tuesday, he has no criminal background and no history of mental health issues. The inquiry is still under progress.
It was at 7:30 a.m. when the gunshots started. According to authorities, the gunman approached the valet area on Monday, took out his weapon, and aimed it at a crowd of individuals. After his weapon malfunctioned at first, he managed to get it to fire several times before he ran into the parking lot and ran into an armed casino security guard.
According to authorities on Monday, the shooter fired at the guard, who fired back as the shooter ran away once more before being shot and taken into custody.
Devon Reese, chair of the northern Nevada Board of Health, said three other people were treated for minor injuries at the casino in addition to those slain and hospitalized. According to him on Monday, one individual was treated for extreme anxiety, another was hurt while running, and a third had a bullet graze their pinky finger.
Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort has played host to sporting events, concerts, and a presidential campaign rally before to the 2024 election. The village is a major summer tourist resort, located just northeast of Lake Tahoe and close to the California border.
Only a few streets from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, the resort boasts the largest casino floor in northern Nevada. With almost 2,000 hotel rooms, it’s also one of the city’s highest structures.
