Tsunami Warning issued for Hawaii after magnitude 8.7 earthquake strikes off Russia

Following a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off the coast of Russia, a HAWAIIA has been issued for Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.

Approximately 18.2 kilometers below the surface of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, the earthquake struck.

A preliminary magnitude of 8.0 was assigned to the earthquake. Since then, its magnitude has increased to 8.7.

According to officials’ assessments, a tsunami has been created that may harm Hawaii’s island beaches. They predict that waves will arrive as early as 7:17 p.m. HST.
