HOUSTONInvestigators are looking into a string of fires in the area, and although one person has been taken into custody, they think there might be more involved.

Dustin Schlain, 45, was taken into custody on Thursday and accused of two counts of second-degree arson.

Despite the little size of the fires, officials caution that they have presented a serious risk to park visitors and the park itself. According to Munoz, no structures were damaged, although there was minor damage to the greenery.

We’re still committed to safeguarding Houstonians and our city’s treasured areas, Chief Mu Oz stated in a statement. This arrest is a testament to the outstanding investigation efforts of our HFD Arson Investigators, whose commitment to apprehending those who pose a threat to our city contributes to Houston’s safety.

Mayor John Whitmire also expressed gratitude to the HFD Arson Bureau for their prompt action in identifying the perpetrator of the damage to one of our city’s parks and for their ongoing efforts to keep Houstonians safe every single day.

At least two fires in and around Memorial Park have been linked to Schlain.
