Extreme Heat Hits Georgia: Heat Index Could Soar to 109°F This Tuesday

With heat index readings reaching between 105°F and 109°F, a Heat Advisory is still in force Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT, according to the Peachtree City National Weather Service. The heat will be intensified by high humidity, which will raise “feels-like” temperatures to levels that might quickly cause heat-related illnesses.

Atlanta, Marietta, Rome, Decatur, Cartersville, and Peachtree City are among the major cities under the alert. Peak warmth is occurring along I-75, I-85, and I-20 corridors shortly before afternoon storms arrive. Without air conditioning, residents are advised to check on their neighbors, limit their outdoor activities, and drink plenty of water.

Tuesday afternoon is likely to see thunderstorms, particularly after 2:00 p.m., with strong winds and the potential for significant rainfall. Although scattered storms could result in localized flooding or power disruptions, no severe weather is presently predicted.
