Subway Manager Accused of Locking Girl, 10, in Back Room and Insulting Her Parents, Say Police

A man from Florida who is employed as a manager at a Subway sandwich store in Jacksonville is currently free on bail after being accused of holding a girl who is ten years old captive at his establishment.

James Anthony Morris Jr., age 33, was taken into custody by law enforcement officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Monday. He is being charged with the unlawful confinement of a child who is younger than 13 years old. An arrest record that was examined by Law & Crime stated that Morris was cleaning the floor of the Subway shop when a girl of ten years old walked across the area that he had recently cleaned. Morris allegedly grabbed the youngster by the hand and carried her to the rear of the restaurant after the girl’s mother ordered her to apologize to Morris. The girl’s aunt was also there during this incident.

After that, it is said that he locked the girl in a room, which immediately caused the mother to “panic.”

In the beginning, the mother believed that Morris was kidding about, as stated in the report. According to the allegations, Morris “pushed the door closed” even though the girl was standing behind it when she sought to open the door. In addition to yelling for assistance, the mother “fought” with Morris. After some time, she was successful in opening the door and releasing her daughter from the room.

The young lady informed the authorities that after Morris reportedly brought her into the rear room, he “gripped her hand even tighter.” This was something that she said when she spoke to the police. He allegedly started yelling at the kid, describing her parents as “trash and terrible people.” This is according to the report. According to the police, the lady “was really scared and thought she was being kidnapped.”

The fact that Morris did not make any sexual moves toward her was corroborated by her voice. Morris was believed to have held the girl for “upwards of two minutes” before her mother arrived to rescue her, according to the police investigations.

Another Subway worker who heard the mother yelling for assistance and attended to the situation was contacted by the police. Although he reported to the authorities that he saw Morris supposedly removing the girl from the situation, he also stated that he “heard the commotion.” In addition to this, he reported to the authorities that Morris was “acting weird” and that he feared the girl might be in danger.

Immediately following the reading of his rights by the police, Morris “refused” to make a statement and instead exercised his right to stay silent. After being arrested on a single charge of false confinement of a kid under the age of 13, he secured a bond of $5,000 and was subsequently committed to jail.

The following court date for him is set for the 13th of August.
