Following more than six inches of overnight precipitation in the region, which is far north of San Antonio, Kerr County Sheriff’s Office officials reported the Guadalupe River flooding occurrence.

This flooding incident in Kerr County is disastrous. Although we can confirm deaths, we won’t provide any more details.

Those who reside close to creeks and streams should relocate to higher ground, according to our sister station, KSAT.

Clint Morris, a KCSO spokeswoman, told KSAT that this flood might be the county’s once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. He also mentioned that the scene is quite active throughout the county and that they have responded to numerous calls for high-water rescues. Travel west of Ingram, close to the Guadalupe River, is discouraged.

Because of the seriousness, KSAT also notifies the City, which activates the City Emergency Management Plan.

According to sources who spoke to KPRC 2, Texas Task Force 1 is sending firefighters and first responders from the Houston region to assist with the flooding in central Texas.

Kerr County has a number of summer camps near the Guadalupe River. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick spoke on the situation at Camp Mystic, which is close to Hunt. He verified that about 20 campers are still missing, but he noted that might change as crews continue to search the area. Regarding Patrick’s claims and what we know about Camp Mystic specifically, we have a separate piece mentioned above.

Kerr County Sheriff Larry L. Leitha confirmed at a press conference in the afternoon that there are already 13 people dead in the county as a result of the flooding, but he hinted that there may be more. Additionally, a number of persons are still missing. Although he could not provide a precise amount, he stated that the process would likely take a few days.

He added that the rain is still falling and that they are unsure of when it will stop, but that it shouldn’t linger for very long.

He advised anyone in need of assistance in locating or contacting loved ones to contact the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767.

According to Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice, the situation has rapidly changed and is still ongoing.

Rice also went into greater detail regarding the precise circumstances that resulted in the devastating flood occurrence.

At roughly three in the morning, give or take, the north and south forks that lead into the Guadalupe (River) reach their heights.Everything was good while I was on the river trail. It was nearly to the bridge in an hour and a half to two hours. We couldn’t have predicted this, and it escalated very rapidly and considerably. We even had staff out simply preparing for the Fourth of July celebration. Even with flood warnings and everything else going on, some things happen quickly. When those two forks merge, a significant flood event is clearly formed.

Many people were unaware of this, according to Rice, and many were asleep when the floodwaters swept down the river.

We are not yet fully in recovery mode because we are still actively rescuing and searching for those who are out and in need of help, Rice stated.

In order to avoid potentially impeding emergency personnel conducting search and rescue efforts, he asks everyone to kindly keep off the roadways.
