Farewell to three historic attractions at Walt Disney World – Disney confirms their permanent closure in Orlando – Magic Kingdom among them

Neither hurricanes nor wars – fires in Alberta cripple 7% of Canada’s oil production and threaten to raise gasoline prices in the U.S.

Goodbye Tesla – JCB’s new hydrogen engine could be a game changer and challenge Tesla’s dominance

Neither melting ice nor pollution – ship anchors are causing irreversible damage to Antarctica’s underwater ecosystem

Disney World is every child and adult’s dream

, a place filled with magic, from the food to the characters who walk around the park and interact with you. And, of course, the rides! Even if it’s been years since you last visited, that feeling always comes back the moment you walk in, right?

Now, Disney has dropped a piece of news that hasn’t gone over well with many travellers… Magic Kingdom will close Liberty Square Riverboat, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Rivers of America waterway on July 7. They’re talking about a new expansion, the upcoming Piston Peak National Park, inspired by the “Cars” and “Planes: Fire & Rescue” sagas, and a mysterious area dedicated to

Disney

villains expected to arrive sometime in the next decade.

But… what about our nostalgia, which also happens to be the park’s main emotional driver? In a place where nostalgia is the emotional engine, this decision hits millions of fans who saw these attractions as a calm break from the chaos of the rides.

Disney World is changing forever

Since 1971, these three attractions have offered a moment of peace in the park — especially Liberty Square, with its perfect strolls, and what about that famous “Old West” photo? It’ll be lost forever…

The same goes for Tom Sawyer Island. Inspired by Mark Twain’s novel, the island was the last place where kids could climb, run, and get lost in mazes with no digital controls or endless lines… Its retirement leaves a gap in free play opportunities.

Lastly, Rivers of America, the waterway that surrounds the island, kept the original park’s spirit alive: calm water, lush greenery, and that feeling of “frontier America” that is slowly being replaced by franchises. A real shame…

Piston Peak National Park

A new stage is coming, betting on Pixar’s motorized aesthetic. The first images show giant pine trees, geysers, and mountains sculpted on a cinematic scale.

Magic Kingdom will feature next-gen projection technology and “off-road” rides with “Cars” characters. But will it be as special as Liberty Square? We’ll have to wait and see…

Pixar DNA

Cabins, ranger offices, and a big lodge will serve as the narrative backdrop. Each structure will include references to Lightning McQueen, we do like that, and will blend the park’s handmade style with Pixar’s signature humour.

The future of Disney World

Of course, this new project will generate thousands of temporary jobs during construction, even though, for now, it means relocating visitors.

Who wouldn’t want to go to Disney to check out this new area?!

A land dedicated to villains

Yes, Piston Peak seems like fun, but what about those of us who love Disney villains? Well, we’ll have our own corner in the park. Named “Villains Land”, although nothing is confirmed yet, rumours say it will feature high-tech experiences, themed dining, and exclusive shops. Who knows, maybe we’ll get to eat poisoned apples or desserts inspired by 101 Dalmatians!

Losing nostalgia…

Growing up means accepting that some things aren’t for us anymore (even if some of us are still big kids), and even though nostalgia overwhelms us when we walk into the park, they have to create that same excitement for the new members of the family. They need to keep the magic alive!

So, if you’re planning a trip to Orlando to enjoy this wonderful theme park, remember that you have until July 7 to enjoy these legendary attractions one last time.

The last boats sailing through Rivers of America are about to depart forever, we are still so sad… As much as it hurts to say goodbye, that’s life, how will be the new Piston Peak? We are excited about it!!
