This week, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is once again issuing a round of payments that can reach up to $5,108 per user, corresponding to the payments for the month of April. These payments are not just any payments, but rather correspond to retirement, survivor, and disability benefits, which are delivered monthly to beneficiaries.
Specifically, and following the schedule set by the Social Security Administration, this Wednesday the checks will be issued to those born between the 11th and the 20th of any month.
In addition to this, those born between the 1st and 10th have already received their payments (they receive it on the first Wednesday of each month) and those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), who receive it on the first day of the month.
But not everyone knows how much they are entitled to, or what to do if the payment doesn’t arrive. And even less so, that there are new changes in phone procedures that come into effect this very month, so we’re here to shed some light and guide you through your possible doubts. We’ll tell you everything below.
What do I need to know?
Mainly, that the SSA sets a calendar at the beginning of the year that it follows throughout the year, and in it, the monthly payment distribution is established.
For example, SSI (which provides financial support to elderly or disabled people with very limited income and resources) is issued on the 1st of each month, and the following Wednesdays are used for retirement payments, divided into three turns: the first Wednesday of each month is for those born between the 1st and 10th of any month, the second Wednesday is for those born between the 11th and 20th of any month, and the third Wednesday of the month is for those born in the last third of the month.
How much money can you receive this month?
The maximum retirement pension amount depends directly on the age at which you decide to retire. If you do it at 67, which is the full retirement age, you can receive up to $4,018 per month. If you retire early, at 62 years old, the payment is reduced to $2,831, and if you delay your retirement until age 70, the maximum increases to $5,108 per month, the highest payment contemplated by the SSA for those who take this initiative.
For those receiving SSI, the monthly maximum in 2025 is $967 per person or $1,450 per couple, although the final amount may vary depending on income or household situation.
When are April’s checks paid?
As we mentioned above, this week’s payment corresponds to people born between the 11th and 20th of any month. If you’ve been collecting for a while, you should receive the money in your account this very week.
With this payment, there will only be one payment date left this April: the next April 23rd will be for those born between the 21st and 31st.
And if I don’t receive my payment?
The SSA reminds beneficiaries that, if you haven’t received your payment, you must wait three business days before contacting the office. Weekends and holidays do not count as business days, and payments are usually advanced so they’re not delayed too much, because the Administration is fully aware that millions of beneficiaries rely solely on these payments.
Have there been any changes?
Yes, there is an important new development that will take effect starting Monday, April 14. After receiving countless criticisms the SSA received after announcing that procedures could no longer be done by phone, they have decided to reverse that decision and will allow them to continue as before, only now they will verify the identity of the applicant in a more secure way.
The interim commissioner himself, Leland Dudek, explained that with this change they aim to make the procedures more accessible and secure, and at the same time prevent fraud.
