HAMPTON, VA – One individual was killed in a crash in Hampton on Tuesday afternoon, and police identified the victim on Thursday.
The Hampton Police Division confirmed the news in a post on X. The incident occurred near the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and Martha Lee Drive.
Hampton police later reported that three automobiles were involved in the incident. Police reported that one victim was confirmed dead upon arrival.
Another individual was transported with non-life-threatening injuries, while another was treated on the scene and released.
The Accident Reconstruction Team determined that the accident was caused by a car heading westbound on Mercury Boulevard that rear-ended two additional vehicles. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of West Mercury Boulevard.
Lucille McPherson, 73, of Newport News, died, according to authorities on Thursday.
They said that the incident is still being investigated.
