SAN JOSE, Calif. – On Monday evening, three northbound lanes of 101 in San Jose were closed due to a fatal solo vehicle incident. This is just south of Tully Road.
The California Highway Patrol issued a traffic notice around 5:08 p.m. At about 7:45 p.m., the CHP announced that all lanes had reopened. A Highway Patrol spokeswoman said that the unidentified male driver, who lost control of his car for unclear circumstances, was 50 years old.
SkyFOX flew over the site, where the vehicle that ran off the road and caused a major backup on the highway could be seen.
The CHP recommended drivers take alternate routes. The crash is being investigated.
This new incident occurred on the same day that San Jose police reported three road fatalities, one over the weekend and two last month. One of the crashes involved a pedestrian, while the other two involved drivers.
