4-Year-Old Shot in Vallejo During Gunbattle, Mother Drives Her to Safety

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Vallejo, California, when a 4-year-old girl was critically injured after getting caught in a dangerous gunfight on the evening of January 13, 2025. The girl and her mother were driving through the area when they found themselves in the middle of a shootout between two groups. The young girl was hit by a stray bullet, leading to immediate concerns for her safety.

The shooting took place around 8:30 p.m. near Mark Avenue and Sawyer Street, as the girl’s mother was driving with her child in the car. Authorities say the gunbattle seemed to involve individuals on foot and those in a moving car. The shootout spread to nearby Sawyer and Gateway Streets, where even more shots were fired.

At the time of the shooting, Vallejo police were already in the vicinity executing a search warrant for an unrelated matter. They heard the gunfire and quickly responded. Officials revealed that dozens of shots were fired by at least four different guns during the altercation, making it a very dangerous situation for anyone in the area.

The mother of the young girl, who was understandably in shock, immediately rushed her daughter to the hospital. Thanks to her quick thinking, the 4-year-old girl was safely transported to a local medical center where she was treated for her serious injuries. She was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Oakland, where doctors are continuing their efforts to stabilize her.

The incident has left the community in shock and disbelief. A resident of Vallejo, Harold Dees, expressed his outrage, condemning the senseless violence. He called it an act of cowardice, saying, “You’ve offended and hurt somebody that couldn’t defend themselves. What kind of coward are you that you pick on people like that?” He also noted the ongoing challenges of living in a place where violence is becoming a routine issue.

The girl’s grandmother shared her gratitude that her granddaughter survived the attack. She thanked God that the child was “in the land of the living” and praised the quick action of her daughter for getting the girl the medical help she needed.

Law enforcement is working tirelessly to investigate the case. According to Sergeant Rashad Hollis, this was a senseless act of violence that has deeply impacted the Vallejo community. He assured the public that the police were committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

One resident, who was near the scene during the shooting, described the alarming number of bullet casings that were left on the street. Initially thinking the sounds were fireworks, the resident soon realized the seriousness of the situation and counted approximately 30 spent casings. “Something’s gotta stop,” the resident said, echoing the sentiments of many in the area.

In another shocking report, a woman who lives nearby explained how her home was directly affected by the gunfire. A bullet went through her wall, passed across her couch, and almost struck her 8-year-old son, who was sitting there at the time. Thankfully, her son was unharmed, but she shared how lucky they were. “It sounded like machine guns,” she said, describing the intensity of the gunfire.

This incident is not an isolated case. There has been an increase in gun violence in Vallejo’s Crest neighborhood, with multiple shootings reported, including a serious incident on New Year’s Eve. This has caused residents to become more concerned about their safety and the well-being of their families.

The authorities are continuing to investigate the shooting and are calling for anyone with information to come forward. With gun violence becoming an increasing issue in the community, local residents are urging the authorities to take stronger action to prevent such incidents in the future.
