Columbus Officers Shoot Suspect After Incident

COLUMBUS, Ohio (latestsports) — A suspect is in the hospital after being shot by officers in an incident in north Columbus on Tuesday night.

Columbus police were called to the 1200 block of Northridge Road on a possible domestic violence call just after 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

A woman inside the residencetold officers she had been assaulted by a man, identified as 40-year-old Richard Tatum, who was in the basement of the house.

Tatum made threats to officers and came up the stairs holding a weapon, and multiple officers discharged their firearms, striking Tatum.

Tatum ran back into the basement, but officers were able to get him to come upstairs where they took him into custody and provided medical aid.

Medics took Tatum to Grant Medical Center for treatment, and authorities said he is stable. He will face initial charges of assault, domestic violence, and felonious assault, and additional charges may be filed later.
