A multi-vehicle incident in Fort Lauderdale Tuesday morning injured nine people, two of whom were seriously injured, according to officials.
Around 8:30 a.m., there was a crash on East Las Olas Boulevard near Riviera Isle Drive. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said that four automobiles were involved in the incident.
According to officials, seven persons sustained minor injuries, while two had more serious injuries. They were all sent to the Broward Health Medical Center.
Surveillance video showed the moment a black BMW collided with three automobiles. Another view of the incident showed the aftermath, with individuals piling out of a Dodge Ram pickup and heading to the sidewalk for protection.
A witness to the crash spoke with NBC6.
“I heard a very very loud bang and screaming, something happened and I walked to the front,” says Khaleel Marti.
Marti stated that the victims were scared and bleeding. “Dodge truck lady was crying and hugging in a packed car,” according to him. “Some of them were hurt, some of them were bleeding.”
In the footage, the BMW driver appears to get out of his car after a woman directs him to the side of the road.
Paramedics transported the driver away on a stretcher. Tow trucks arrived about an hour after the incident and removed all of the damaged vehicles.
Police are looking into what happened, but witnesses claim the video tells the story.
“He was coming at a high rate of speed off the bridge, I saw him clip the Corolla, the Dodge, and the truck,” he told me. “He still had enough velocity to turn the truck, so he was facing the door of our firm.”
The crash resulted in no critical casualties.
