According to the documents filed with the court, a lady from Georgia who is accused of neglecting her elderly and disabled mother to such an extreme degree that the 82-year-old was discovered attached to her own bed owing to untreated bedsores has been indicted on a felony murder allegation. The woman was initially arrested for negligence.
Tyrossale Peak, who is 54 years old, was arraigned on Tuesday in Richmond County. She was charged earlier this month on counts of felony murder and cruelty to a challenged adult for the death of her mother, Lillie Sapp, who was discovered glued to her mattress during a welfare check in December 2024. The accusations stem from incident that occurred in December 2024.
According to the records found online Peak was brought into prison on Friday, following the issuance of a warrant for her arrest by a grand jury on July 10.
On December 30, 2024, deputies were dispatched to Peak’s residence in the 2900 block of Rollingwood Drive in Augusta, where her mother had been staying, in order to conduct a welfare check on Sapp. This was done in response to a report that was received. According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, at the time of their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Sapp lying in bed with her skin adhered to the mattress. Additionally, there was a strong odor of bodily material present, and there were roaches everywhere.
It appears that the 82-year-old woman was unable to communicate while the authorities were working to remove her body and provide her with medical assistance. Assistance with her evacuation, which required cutting away a portion of the mattress, was provided by emergency personnel, including firefighters, who were called in to aid. It was first reported that Sapp was in stable condition when she was brought to Wellstar MCG Health, where she was subsequently transported. On Tuesday, the Augusta Press revealed that Sapp had passed away three weeks after his death.
According to the accusation that was received by the local media, Peak “willfully deprived” the victim of health care and housing “to the extent that the health and well-being of Lillie Mae Sapp was jeopardized.” This is stated in the indictment. As reported by the Augusta Press, the paper asserts that Sapp’s wounds and inappropriate bedding habits, which included sheets that were coated in feces and bugs, were the cause of the fatal infections that she suffered in her lungs and bones.
In January, Sapp was meant to be receiving hospice care; nevertheless, in June, she was taken from the facility and placed in Peak’s home for reasons that have not been addressed.
Law & Crime was able to obtain a copy of her arrest report, which indicated that Peak stated during interviews with law enforcement and emergency medical services that Sapp had “lost a bit of weight but she was fine.” As of June, when her mother was discharged from hospice care, Peak stated that she had not seen a medical professional since her mother’s last visit.
According to the arrest report, which cites a responding officer, “Peak stated to EMS that she feeds Sapp every morning and makes sure that she drinks two to three Ensures a day,” saying that she does both of these things. “I walked into the kitchen area and found the kitchen to be infested with roaches,” according to the law enforcement official. “The sink was overflowing with dirty dishes all over.”
According to the authorities, Peak was the one who terminated her mother’s hospice care and failed to provide her own suitable forms of treatment, as well as water and proper nutrition, which ultimately led to the alleged maltreatment of an elderly person. The reason why her mother was in hospice care is unknown.
