69-Year-Old Man Shoots Wife’s Alleged Lover After Heated Flea Market Confrontation

After an altercation in a flea market parking lot resulted in a fatal shooting, a 69-year-old man from Florida is accused of killing his wife’s lover.

Omar Rene Aguila is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the July 12 shooting at Miami’s Northside Shopping Center.

A probable cause arrest affidavit that the Miami Herald was able to get states that the victim and Aguila’s wife began an affair in 2019. In April 2024, Aguila found out about the romance and pushed her to call it quits. However, the victim allegedly arrived at Aguila and his wife’s house two days prior to the shooting. The suspect and victim got into a fight.

According to the affidavit, Aguila was at the flea market with his wife and children on the day of the shooting when the victim dropped off food to a friend. Before departing, the victim made an attempt to speak with Aguila’s wife. The complaint claims that once Aguila entered the victim’s vehicle, the two became combative.

Aguila allegedly drew a revolver in a matter of seconds and shot the man many times. Detectives reportedly observed that the shooting was caught on surveillance footage.

The man was taken by paramedics to the hospital, where medical professionals declared him deceased. The victim’s identity has not been made public.

Because Aguila claimed self-defense and stated that the victim had a gun in his car, police reportedly allowed him to go after the incident. However, investigators are said to have concluded that the victim was never armed. According to police, Aguila has a criminal record and is not allowed to possess a firearm. He faces a charge of felon in possession of a firearm in addition to murder.

On Thursday, Aguila was taken into custody. He is still detained without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Monday is the date of his upcoming court appearance.
