BAYTOWN, Texas – A 6-month-old daughter has died after being mauled by a dog in Texas. The 1-year-old pit bull mix was a family pet, although it was new to the household.
Officials in Baytown said the 6-month-old girl was mauled by a dog inside her family’s apartment.
Animal control removed at least two pets from their house. The other dog, a pit bull mix, was inside a kennel when the attack occurred.
The youngster died in the hospital. “It’s depressing. Lindsay Kahl, director of training at Revival Dog Training, described the situation as “very unfortunate.”
According to Kahl, introducing a new dog into a family with children requires patience and planning.
“It very much depends on the child’s age, but trying to keep interactions minimal and calm at first,” indicated Kahl.
Kahl suggested that the quiet setting include a safe spot for the dog, such as a bed or towel. When babies and dogs are not supervised, baby gates and crates can be utilised to keep them apart. To educate boundaries, leave the dog on a leash at home.”Supervision is, I would say, definitely the most important thing,” Kahl told the audience.
To ease the transition of bringing home a baby, Kahl says dogs need time to adapt. “Getting the dog used to the baby’s routine before they arrive,” said Kahl.
That entails starting crate training early, introducing baby equipment like strollers and cribs, and playing baby sound to acclimatise the dogs. However, if pet owners notice signs of hostility, Kahl recommends seeking expert aid.
“Dogs communicate differently than humans. They employ body language. “People rely on words,” Kahl explained. “Sometimes there can be misunderstandings and miscommunications that can happen very easily.”
Police detained the family’s two dogs. The dog that attacked the toddler will be euthanized. The owner decides what happens to the second dog.
As of Wednesday, no arrests or charges had been filed, but police were still investigating.
