Elizabeth Township, PA – A 4-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after a home in Elizabeth Township caught fire early Monday morning, authorities reported. Firefighters responded swiftly, but difficult access to the home complicated rescue efforts.
Fire Incident and Emergency Response
The home, located along Parkview Street in the Blythedale area of Elizabeth Township, caught fire around 12:30 a.m. on Monday. Elizabeth Township Fire Chief Adam Janosko stated that one of the department’s assistant chiefs, who lives nearby, arrived quickly and confirmed that at least one person was trapped inside.
Fire crews found a 4-year-old girl in one of the bedrooms. She was immediately transported by medics to Jefferson Hospital in critical condition.
A 19-year-old woman, initially unaccounted for, was later located safely at a neighboring residence.
Challenges at the Scene
Chief Janosko noted that access to the home was difficult due to hoarding conditions, which slowed initial firefighting and rescue efforts. Firefighters worked carefully to contain the blaze and ensure no other residents were inside.
Investigation Underway
The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Authorities have not yet determined whether the fire was accidental or intentional, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
