One person died and two were hurt when a car crashed into a Cadillac SUV in Malibu on Thursday. The driver of the car has been named as a “wellness advocate” and social media influencer.
The LA County Sheriff’s Department said Summer Wheaton was driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz that went across the center line and hit a 2020 Cadillac that was going west on Pacific Coast Highway.
He or she was killed at the scene of the accident. Wheaton and a passenger in the Cadillac were hurt and taken to a nearby hospital to get care.
Wheaton used to be a licensed real estate agent, but lately, she has been advertising herself as a “founder, speaker, and wellness advocate” who supports healthy eating and living.
She has more than 100,000 people who follow her on Instagram. But Wheaton’s Instagram account was locked when it was found out she was the driver in the fatal accident.
Wheaton is the CEO and founder of “two innovative startups,” one of which sells vending machines with healthy snacks, according to her website.
The site, which Wheaton uses to promote her businesses and herself as a speaker, was also taken down by Tuesday. That day, its web address said it was a private site that only the owner could view.
Wheaton didn’t answer right away when asked for a statement.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said that the crash is still being looked into.
The fatal accident happened around 10:20 p.m. on the 2200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, around the same time that Nobu Restaurant was having a party without the proper city permits, according to the Malibu Times.
