A 22-year-old man is accused of killing both of his grandparents in Florida. He is said to have shot his grandmother inside a house first, then his grandfather while he was trying to get a neighbor to help, which led to the neighbor’s granddaughter also being shot.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says that Jeremyah Campbell killed his grandparents, George and Mary White, on Wednesday night around 8 p.m. Authorities say Campbell first shot his grandma several times with a pistol inside the couple’s West Melbourne home. He then went on to shoot his grandfather and the neighbor.
At a news conference on Wednesday night, Sheriff Wayne Ivey said, “Just after 8 p.m., a neighbor from across the street approached one of the neighbors in this neighborhood and said that his wife had been shot and was asking for help.” “As he’s asking for help, from the neighbor’s house another round of shots is fired,” he said.
According to the cops, Campbell’s neighbor Terry French’s 25-year-old granddaughter was hit by the gunfire but is not in danger of dying. She should be able to get better.
French talked about what would happen and how 83-year-old George White was desperately trying to get his help before he was shot. He had already shot his 81-year-old wife at least once.
“George was standing here inside the door, and we had it locked so nobody could get in,” he said. Someone in this area, he said, “I think had a 9-millimeter and put these holes in the door.” He then pointed out that George was shot inside French’s house. “He went in the bathroom … shut the door, and that was it.”
In interviews, people who live in the area said it was very scary, and at one point they heard about six gunshots.
“Five gunshots, a pause, and then the last one,” Shea Stewart, a neighbor, said. “Then, I heard the scream of a woman.”
Two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder, and shooting into a house that was occupied are all charges against Campbell. He was taken to the Brevard County Jail and will have his first court date on Friday.
“George and Mary were probably to me, and I’ve known him for 30 years… “My neighbor was one of the best I’ve ever had,” French said. “He’d do anything for you.”
Ivey said on Wednesday that cops were still looking into it but had not yet found a reason.
