A head-on collision that occurred on Highway 99 on Monday morning resulted in the death of a man from Elk Grove and the injury of numerous other people.
A car accident was reported to have occurred on Highway 99, south of Hammatt Avenue, at approximately 2:12 a.m., prompting the California Highway Patrol to attend to the scene. A head-on collision involving three vehicles resulted in the death of one person, according to the findings of the authorities who arrived at the site.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a guy from Elk Grove, age 21, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu sedan from 2020 in the incorrect direction, heading northbound, when he collided with a man from San Bernardino, age 41, who was driving a Toyota Camry sedan from 2020 in the southbound lane at approximately 65 miles per hour.
The drivers did not see each other until the collision, according to the police, for reasons that are unknown. There was a collision between the front of the Chevrolet and the front of the Toyota on the right. As a result of the incident, the Chevrolet veered to the left, heading in the direction of a large truck that was travelling in the third lane, which was heading south.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the big rig, who was 26 years old, was unable to properly stop the big rig in order to prevent the collision, and the Chevrolet hit the trailer of the truck. A medical examiner at the site determined that the Chevrolet’s driver had passed away. There were four people inside the Chevrolet, and they were all transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment of moderate to severe injuries. Their ages ranged from 19 to 21 years old.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the big rig and the driver of the Toyota did not receive any injuries and were not transferred by medical staff. Both drivers remained at the scene of the accident and were compliant with the officers who were conducting the investigation.
