SIMI VALLEY, CA – A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested following a series of crimes in Simi Valley, including vandalism, vehicle theft, and possession of stolen property. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, was taken into custody after crashing a stolen vehicle with a punched ignition.
The Vandalism Incident
The sequence of events began on Saturday night when the Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) received a radio call about a vandalism incident on Fallon Circle at approximately 10:25 p.m.. A witness reported seeing a male suspect smashing the window of a parked car. Officers were immediately dispatched to the area, but despite a thorough search, they were unable to locate the suspect.
Crash Leads to Teen’s Arrest
Less than 30 minutes later, officers responded to a crash at 1900 Morley Street, located just over two miles away from the initial vandalism site. Upon arriving, they discovered a juvenile who matched the description of the suspect provided earlier. The teen was found near Abraham and Malcolm streets and detained for questioning.
Further investigation revealed that the crashed vehicle, a Kia Soul, had a punched ignition, a known sign that it had been stolen. Police confirmed that the car had been recently stolen, although it had not yet been reported to authorities.
Additional Crimes and Charges
As officers continued to investigate, they discovered that the teen was also in possession of property taken from another vehicle theft on Valjean Avenue. The exact timing of this theft was not disclosed, but the teen’s possession of the stolen items led to further charges.
The teenager was arrested and charged with vehicle theft, petty theft, and vandalism, as per KTLA. Following the arrest, he was cited and released to his mother, as he is a juvenile.
