A 10-vehicle incident on Interstate 35 near RM 620 in Round Rock on Monday killed one person and injured three others, according to police.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 35 in the region were closed late Monday afternoon, but the northbound lanes were open, according to officials.
Officers arrived at the crash around 11:40 a.m., which included both the northbound and southbound lanes, according to a police news release.
According to the report, the individual who was slain died on the scene, while the three others who were hurt sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospitals.
According to authorities, the reason for the collision is being investigated, and further information will be shared when it becomes available. The accident occurred approximately a week and a half after an 18-vehicle collision on Interstate 35 in North Austin killed five people and injured over a dozen others.
According to an arrest document, lorry driver Solomun Weldekeal Araya, 37, caused the March 13 crash after failing a sobriety test. Investigators suspect Araya was under the effect of central nervous system depressants, which include sedatives, according to the document.
According to the affidavit, Araya reported to police that his brakes failed as he neared a traffic jam caused by a resurfacing project. He is accused of five charges of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault.
